This time next week (Tuesday June 1) voters in Alabama's 7th Congressional District will be going to the polls with a chance to elect their next member of Congress. This is an extremely Democratic district currently represented by Congressman Artur Davis who is vying for the Democratic Party Gubernatorial nomination.
I have the most experience in the race and have worked the hardest to listen to the concerns voiced by the residents of the 7th Congressional District. I appreciate the opportunity I've had to come and speak with the Daily Kos community about my historic bid to become the First African American female elected to Congress from Alabama as the most progressive candidate in the race and the one with the most experience.
It’s time for our district to start claiming our future. But we don’t need to start from scratch. With me on your side, we’ll start from a position of strength.
As an investigative journalist, radio talk show host and as a County Commissioner for the past eight years I've had a history of producing results for District 7.
Jobs
I’ve brought thousands of jobs to our area and I’ll fight for our share of economic development funding.
Education
I helped build 29 new schools in our community to give our kids a fighting chance at building a better future.
Healthcare
When hard times threatened Cooper Greene Hospital (indigent county hospital), I stood up for the quality healthcare you deserve.
Transportation
I streamlined transportation spending and helped ensure that road funding reached neighborhoods that needed it the most. I will fight for road and bridge upgrades and mass transportation for our communities.
Quality of Life
I led the fight to provide affordable housing, build walking trails and senior centers in some of our community's poorest neighborhoods.
This Congressional District is very rich district historically and culturally. However, we need to create jobs, provide better access to quality health care and rebuild our infrastructure. We are the team for that job.
Our Primary is on June 1, just a week from today
Our campaign has worked hard to communicate via the newest tools of technology.
And if you are able please donate as a member of Grassroots for Smoot on Act Blue - help us reach our goal of $2,000 between now and June 1st. We just need an additional $1115 to reach that goal.
